Sydney Schaefer is a photo editor based in Brooklyn, New York.

Currently, she is one of two photo assignment managers for U.S. news at The Associated Press, where she was previously a photo editor on the Global Photo Desk. Prior to joining the AP, she was the assistant managing editor at the Watertown Daily Times in upstate New York's North Country region. At 24 years old, she was the first woman and youngest person ever to hold the position in the newspaper's 160-year history. 

A graduate of Temple University's Klein College of Media and Communication in Philadelphia, Sydney began her career in Watertown, N.Y., as a staff photographer at the Times. She spent three years at the newspaper before relocating to New York City, where she joined the AP in July 2022. She was born and raised in the suburbs of Philadelphia.
